A viable player in the open ear headphone space

A viable player in the open ear headphone space
When you talk about trail running/outdoor headphones, most people seem to recommend AfterShokz products. Those use bone conduction technology, which is inherently limited in sound quality. I have used these and I understand the appeal, but I feel like they have been surpassed in the marketplace by other open ear technology. My go to in this space, what I feel is the gold standard, is the Oladance Wearable Stereo. The Oladance sound great, are very comfortable/ergonomic on the ear, and have insane battery life, while still providing the open ear awareness needed for trail use. That brings us to this product - the Lavales (as branded in the product listing)/E35 (as branded on the product package). How does this product hold up? How does it compare to AfterShokz or Oladance? On solely its own merits, I found these earphones to be surprisingly good. The audio quality is strong. It has good bass (sometimes a little too good on very bassy tracks). The volume is excellent; I pretty much universally have them at below 50% volume on my iPhone 13 Pro. They are not the MOST comfortable earphones I have ever used, but they are certainly not uncomfortable. They are very well balanced and stay in place perfectly. I ran up and down 8 stories of stairs two times wearing these, and they didn’t move at all. I also wore them for 6+ hours straight on consecutive nights, and experienced no real discomfort. So now the question arises - how do they compare to the market leaders? If you are cross shopping these against AfterShokz - just get these. You’ll thank me later. Bone conduction headphones had their day in the limelight, but they have been surpassed by better open ear technology. These headphones have significantly better sound quality in every way compared to AfterShokz, and they don’t have that “vibrating” sensation, either. Comparing these to Oladance is where things get more complicated. These sound good, but the Oladance sound just a bit better. These have okay comfort, but the ergonomics of the Oladance are just better. I didn’t max out the battery on these, but I would guess they are in the same ballpark as the Oladance. If money is no object, get the Oladance over these. So, this is where we get to the “value” proposition. If these headphones were $50, it would be an absolute no-brainer to get these. There would be no better value in the marketplace. But what about at the current price of $99? The Oladance are better, but Oladance plus the battery case is ~$200 (although they do occasionally run sales). As I’ve said, if money is no object, that should be your choice. But are the Oladance twice as good? This is where it gets tricky. These are certainly a better value than any tier of AfterShokz (OpenMove currently sells for $80, up to $180 for OpenRun Pro). But do you buy these, or save up extra for the Oladance and wait for a sale? That is the question for which I’m really having a hard time providing an answer. Overall, the Lavales/E35 are better than I expected, and are a very viable player in the open ear headphone space. They do not exceed the best, but they do exceed the most popular. If you have a legitimate need for open ear headphones and you go with these, I don’t think you will be disappointed at all.

The white version of these earphones seems to have a problem from the factory. I've ordered two of them, and sent two of them back. In both cases, the right channel, after being connected for a few minutes, starts disconnecting and reconnecting - one second on, one second off. The black version seems to have no problems. I have two of them, and a coworker has a pair. None of the black ones seem to have any problems. Not sure what's going on here, but avoid the white ones. I use them to connect to my computer, which has a USB Bluetooth adapter. I don't have any problems with any other devices connecting to this adapter, only the white Lavales earphones.

Edit: After seeing this review, the people at Lavales reached out to me in order to make things right. They were very polite, and agreed to send me a pair of the black earphones. The black ones are excellent, and I have no problems with them. If you have a problem with anything and make contact with Lavales, if my experience is anything to go by, the customer service will be excellent. Changing the rating from one star to four just for their willingness to ensure I was taken care of.

I have never been able to wear ear pods bc the opening of my ear is not shaped normal. Normal ones don't fit and if they fit they don't stay. And I hate wearing headphones all the time! These work so perfectly! They fit! They stay! They don't block my awesome earrings! It's a match made in heaven!!!

New headphone are always exciting to get. We are always looking for the next best affordable headphones. I was lucky enough to give these own a try and I will say, for a rather unknown brand. It’s not a bad set of headphones. My husband liked them so much he stole my part to wear them at work.

When you get your phones, they come in a box. The box is not every big but it doesn’t have photos and details on it so if you’re giving this as a gift. I would highly recommend wrapping it up to keep the surprise longer but the box is made up if a very decent and sturdy material that will protect your headphones as long as they are in the box.

Inside your headphone box you get your headphones
Your charing carrying case, charing wire, and your user manual. Everything you need. I would recommend reading over the user manual at least once to make sure you know how to properly care and use your headphones.

The case is used in multiple ways! The case is used to store and house your headphones when you aren’t using them, they are also where you store and pair your headphone to your mobile devices. It’s extremely important that you take care of your case cause if you loose or brake it. The headphone become kind of useless.

These headphone are perfect for just about any ear. It’s perfect because it doesn’t have to go into your ear. There is a little hook on the side of the earpiece. It hooks around your ear which is perfect for high activity because you don’t have to worry about it falling out your ears. It doesn’t matter if you have small or large ears.

The case does hold a battery very well. It holds almost 50 hours of a charge so that you can recharge your headphones multiple times. The actual headphones hold a 24 hour charge. I personally only used it for two days without charging and I haven’t had to place it back in the headset. Which is pretty amazing. Connecting the headphone are extremely easy and you should follow the rules given to you in the instructions and you should be able to connect within a few seconds.

These headphones are NOT waterproof. They are water resistant so they will hold up to a little swat from working out but you cannot submerge these under any circumstances or you will ruin your headphones. After your workout. I would highly recommend wiping down your headset to remove salt from sweat.

The sound quality isn’t the worst but it also isn’t the best. If you’re not a sound snob, I can see you really enjoying these headphones but if you are very picky about sound. I can see this being an issue. The base quality isn’t the best. The overall sound is okay. It’s steady and there is not static or disconnecting when using it but I can see how this can fall short for a lot of users.
